How To: Protect Individual Apps on Android That You Can Only Unlock with Your Face
Locking individual apps on your Android device gives you an added layer of security by safeguarding app data from unwanted attention. I personally prefer using an app locker over a standard lock screen because my kids play with my phone, and they've completely disabled it after inputting the wrong PIN. So app lockers give me the right balance between giving my children access to my device, and the security of locking down my data from would-be intruders.We've covered some great app lockers in the past, but those either used a password, PIN, or fingerprint. However, an interesting app called IObit Applock now uses facial recognition as one of its security measures, which makes unlocking your apps as easy as looking at your phone. Step 1: Install IObit ApplockTo get this one going, head over to the Google Play Store and download IObit Applock - Face Lock.Install IObit Applock for free from the Google Play Store

Step 2: Create a Password & Grant PermissionsOnce you've downloaded and opened the app, you'll be asked to set an initial password to get the ball rolling. After you've done that, input the email you prefer as a security backup, then tap "Bind." Android 5.0 Lollipop and above requires you to grant IObit Applock permission to access data, so make sure the box next to Allow usage tracking is ticked when the app automatically asks for permission. (1) Set a pattern lock (can be changed later if you like). (2) Input your retrieval email.

Step 3: Enable Device Administrator AccessNow that you've got initial setup out of the way, you should take this time to enable IObit Applock as a device administrator. This will ensure that someone else can't just uninstall IObit Applock to get around its app-locking features.To do that, head to the app's side navigation menu and select "Security Center." Tap on "Avoid Being Uninstalled," and the app will prompt you to enable device administrator access. Select "Activate" on this message, and the app will now need to be disabled by the owner to be uninstalled. (1) Tap "Security Center". (2) Select "Avoid Being Uninstalled". (3) Tap "Activate" to give the app admin permission.

Step 4: Lock Individual Apps & Enable Face ScanningGo back to the main screen and select which apps you want to lock by tapping them in the list. Once you've done that, swipe down to refresh the list. From here, you'll see three icons next to each locked app—to enable face unlocking for any app, simply tap the first of the three icons, then follow the prompts to let IObit Applock scan your face. When you're done there, you can go back and enable the face-locking feature for other apps by tapping the first of the three icons again. (1) Enable app locking by tapping apps in the list. (2) Refresh the list, then tap the first icon to enable face locking. (3) Follow the prompts to scan your face.

Step 5: Unlock Apps Using Your FaceFrom now on, whenever you open one of your locked apps, you'll be greeted by the face scanner. To unlock the app, all you have to do is line your face up with the overlay on the screen, then wait a second or two. However, if anybody else tries to open the app IObit will see that it's not you, then default to the password or PIN lock screen instead. After three failed attempts, you'll even get an email with a picture of the person who attempted to open one of your locked apps! You can rearrange icons and widgets, or even just pick a new wallpaper — but sometimes, your layout is perfect and you still want a fresh look. Well, thanks to Action Launcher and icon packs, this is really easy to accomplish.Installing an icon pack basically allows you to change the theme of your home screen. Each pack usually has a unique set of icons for all of the standard system apps, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Photos, and they typically include dozens more for popular apps like Facebook, Instagram, eBay, and so on. Step 1: Download an Icon PackThe first thing you'll need is an icon pack. To find a good one, head to the Play Store and search for "icon pack," or just tap this link. With the sheer amount of photos, videos, and miscellaneous files we place on our computers, proper organization becomes necessary. Not only so that we can quickly get to a file when it's needed, but also to declutter folders and keep them from looking like random file dumps.When you upload photos, for instance, they usually consist of a unique directory name and number—hence the reason you get some variation of "IMG_1234" in your digital photo library. Same goes for movies.Thankfully, Apple added several editing tools to Yosemite that allow you to quickly and easily rename multiple files at once. Previously, there was no way to rename a group of files unless you used a third-party app to handle the batch operation, so Mac OS X's new native tools are much welcomed. How to Rename Group Filenames CompletelyStart by highlighting a group of files in the Finder, just as I have in the screenshot below, then right-click on them and select "Rename # Items" from the menu. In the popup editor, you'll be able to either replace specific text in all of the files ("Replace Text"), add additional text to them ("Add Text"), or completely reformat the way they're all named ("Format").Since "Format" is the only option that allows me to completely rename the files, I'll be showing you that first. In the Name Format drop-down, you'll find three options for reformatting the filenames:Name and Index: name and numbered sequence (starts at 1) Name and Counter: name and numbered sequence (starts at 00001) Name and Date: name and date (year, month, day and time) I ended up choosing "Name and Index" because it makes for the shortest title and utilizes numbers. In the Custom Format field, enter the name for the list of files. For example, use the name of the place you visited, if you're renaming vacation pictures. You can also edit where you want the name in the title using the Where drop-down, as well as the value you want the number sequence to begin with in the Start numbers at field. When you're all set, just hit the "Rename" button. Above, you can see my newly renamed pictures, titled San Diego [2015], along with numbers affixed to the end of the title.

How to Replace or Add Text to Group Filenames"Replace Text" allows you to enter a keyword from the title of your files, then replace it with whatever text you'd like. For example, if your files are called something like "IMG_4742", you can enter "IMG" in the Find field and have it replaced with "San Diego" using the Replace with field. With "Add Text," you can add whatever text you want to either the end or the beginning of the existing file name. As you can see, the features for these two renaming options are somewhat limited, which is why I opted to use the "Format" option instead. Turn Off Web & App Activity (On Android)This fix comes courtesy of Reddit user oldish79 and should have your links looking blue again in no time. (If you're using iOS, skip to the next section for instructions, as it's slightly different.)Head to Google (either in your mobile browser or the Google app) and tap on the "three lines" icon near the top to open the side menu. Open your Settings, then select "Accounts & privacy." Next, tap on "Google activity controls," then "Web & App Activity." This is switched on by default for all Google accounts, so just switch it off. Or rather, "pause" it, as Google puts it, using the toggle. Pausing your Web & App activity won't delete any previous activity, it just won't record anything new—it's kind of like permanently being in Incognito mode.Select "Pause" at the bottom of this screen and your Web & App Activity will be switched off. You can always come back and switch it on again, perhaps after Google abandons this black link nonsense. Wow, Google really doesn't want us turning this feature off. Once this is done, you should be back to seeing links appear as blue.

Then tap on the toggle for "Your searches and browsing activity" and hit "Pause" on the popup. (Note that if you have a content blocker enabled in Safari, you might have to first disable it in order to see the "Pause" button.)
Other Possible OptionsLike I said above, switching off your Web & App Activity makes it like your account is always operating in Incognito mode. If you're using Chrome, you can just open an Incognito tab and the black links will switch back to blue. It's a quicker fix than the one above, but you run the risk of forgetting to open an Incognito tab and accidentally laying your eyes upon Google's wretched experiment.Other users have said that simply logging out of and back into your Google account is enough to fix the problem, but it doesn't seem to be working for everyone.
