How To: Unlock and Root the Verizon Droid DNA by HTC
Last week, HTC released their new Droid DNA smartphone in hopes of gaining more traction in a smartphone world currently dominated by Apple and Samsung with their popular iPhone and Samsung Galaxy lines. The new Droid DNA boasts a 5-inch 1080p displayĆ¢€”the highest resolution for any smartphone on the market. It runs Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with HTC Sense software, and has may other typical features, such as NFC and wireless charging. Please enable JavaScript to watch this video.
While the phone was just released last week, as is expected with most new smartphones, Android developers have have already unlocked and rooted the Droid DNA.
How to Root the Droid DNAXDA Developer forum member HQRafa has made a newbie-friendly guide on how to unlock the Verizon Droid DNA by HTC. Here's the basics.Unlock the bootloader. HTCdev can be used to do this, among other ways. Be warned, though, this will wipe your entire device, so make sure to backup the phone. Download ClockworkMod or TWRP recovery. Rename it to recovery.img. Download the SuperSU and busybox package. Put it on the phone's SD card. Put your phone into bootloader mode and connect it to the computer. On your computer, go to the folder where the downloaded recovery file is and use this command to flash the recovery: fastboot flash recovery recovery.imgTo finish, reboot the device into recovery, flash the SuperSU and busybox package, and reboot the device.
